WHEREAS, The American Camp Association (ACA) is a community of camp professionals and is dedicated to enriching the lives of children and adults through the camp experience; and

WHEREAS, ACA is a leading authority in child development, and works closely with other youth-serving organizations and associations - including the YMCA of the USA - to preserve, promote, and improve the camp experience; and

WHEREAS, ACA offers a Student Membership which is available to anyone who is a full or part-time student and is interested in receiving student-specific benefits, which include 1) ACA's Camping Magazine, May/June issue only... other issues provided online; 2) Participation in the Student Member List Serve; 3) Discount on a full-year subscription to Camping Magazine ($15 for students); and 4) Access to the Student's area of ACA's Web site; and

WHEREAS, the ACA Ohio Section provides Morrison Scholarships to reimburse half of the student membership fee, currently $35; and

WHEREAS, the Friends of Kern Articles of Incorporation identify one of its purposes as "To develop and maintain resources which will help preserve, promote, and support the resident camp experience, continuing in perpetuity the work of former Boys' Work Secretary Carl B. Kern."; and

WHEREAS, the Friends of Kern Board of Directors supports ACA Student Memberships as an opportunity for students to learn more about best practices for the camp experience,

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Friends of Kern, Inc. shall match the ACA Ohio Section Morrison Scholarships for any current student who is presently or has been previously associated with YMCA Camp Kern and who is interested in becoming a member of the American Camp Association Ohio Section; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the amount offered from Friends of Kern, Inc. per Student Membership shall not exceed one-half the cost of a Student Membership; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the total amount offered from Friends of Kern, Inc. for all Student Memberships shall not exceed $500 annually.
